John Edwards plans to drop out of the presidential race Wednesday afternoon, FOX News confirms, ending an underdog bid that was jeopardized by his distant third finish in the South Carolina primary on Saturday.
Edwards, a former North Carolina senator and two-time White House candidate, plans to make the announcement at 1 p.m. ET in New Orleans, where he already had scheduled a speech on poverty, according to advisers
