TERRORISM: BIN LADEN REAPPEARS TO THREATEN U.S.

Historically intransigent barbarians propose a truce only because they are so badly damaged as to be functionally incapacitated.

Doha, 19 Jan. (AKI) - An audio message purportedly by Osama bin Laden, aired by the pan-Arab channel Al-Jazeera, threatens new attacks on the United States. "We are preparing new strikes and you will see them sooner rather than later" said the recording of what the network says is bin Laden's voice. "Iraq is not the only battle ground, as you have seen with other recent attacks in European territory".

The three minute message also offers a "long truce" in returnh for an American withdrawal form Iraq. "We propose a long truce to allow the reconstruction of Iraq and Afghanistan which have suffered so much from the war" it says. The only losers in this truce will be arms dealers and producers," it continues.

The al-Qaeda number one says his message is directed to the American people and makes reference to what appear to be recent US opinion polls indicating growing support for a withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

It is more than a year since the last message from the al-Qaeda chief broadcast by Al Jazeera and the long silence had prompted intense speculation that he may have died or been killed.

Appears Osama has some allies in this country wouldn't you say.

Oh, and btw....this quote from the BBC: The voice on the tape said the reason there had not been an attack in the US since 11 September 2001 was not because of superior US security, but because the group had been engaged in activities in Iraq and because operations in the US "need preparations".

Kinda legitimizes the " It's better to fight them over there than here" narrative the left has been so willing to dismiss.
